A New Canaan homeowner is facing $10,000 in fines after building officials charged that his home violates the town's blight ordinance.
The multifamily home at 74 Forest St. was built in 1829. The roof of the home appears to be deteriorating, the paint is peeling and the yard is unkempt.
New Canaan has fined the building's owner, who lives out of town, $100 a day dating back to February 13.
Town lawyers say the homeowner was notified of a hearing on the matter last week, but he did not attend.
A New Canaan ordinance orders that property owners should "refrain from creating or maintaining blight."
The homeowner's lawyer, Donald Pitofsky, could not be reached for comment.
