Classes at Saxe Middle School in New Canaan were canceled Friday because of a bomb threat called in Thursday night.
New Canaan Public School Superintendent Dr. David Abbey said the bomb threat was made around 6:30 p.m. Thursday and the police were notified immediately. Parents were notified of the closure around 6:00 a.m. Friday. There was not enough time to make sure the school was adequately secure, so classes were canceled. Abbey also said the district took the precaution to cancel classes rather than have young students witness the investigation.
Investigators and bomb-sniffing dogs searched the school grounds and found nothing suspicious.
While some students may have been glad to have a day off from school, parents say they are frustrated that classes were canceled last minute. They also say they are concerned about the bomb scare.Classes will resume on Monday. Anyone with information is asked to call Saxe Middle School at 203-594-4000.
