The New Covenant Center held its annual Thanksgiving Day lunch on Thursday afternoon in Stamford.
Over 35 volunteers from St. Leo Parish prepared and served the meal to those in need. It consisted of traditional favorites and apple pie for dessert.
John Gutman, the executive director of the New Covenant Center, says a lot of thought goes into all the preparation.
“The decorations in this room are from the children’s parish, parents came in yesterday,” said Gutman.
Gary Divico has volunteered for 15 years.
"It's just giving back to the community. You know it's only a couple of hours of my time. You know, it just feels good, to get a feel-good attitude after doing it, and I really enjoy it," says Divico.
The center serves the community all year long, providing people with breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Organizers said the center also provides job placement skills.
The center is Stamford's largest soup kitchen and food pantry.
