A New Haven man who has been on the run since May died Wednesday in Virginia following a shootout with police.
Police have been searching for 41-year-old Tramaine Marquese Poole in connection with the shootings of two women.
Poole is suspected of allegedly shooting his wife in May. He is also suspected of fatally shooting 28-year-old Tyekqua Nesbitt in front of her children, also in May.
According to Virginia state troopers, they saw a car traveling on I-95 that was reported stolen from Connecticut.
Officials say that during a pursuit, a person in the stolen car began shooting at police.
The pursuit eventually stopped with the driver, Poole, dead on the scene.
The passenger, an unidentified woman, was taken to the hospital for treatment.
A police K-9 also died after it was struck by shots fired into the back window of the state police K-9 unit.
The incident remains under investigation and per policy, three troopers are out on administrative leave.
