A big crowd is expected in Stamford Thursday night as city officials will debate a plan to make parking a whole lot easier for residents.
The city could soon add more resident-only parking zones if given the green light, meaning if you live in the area, you can park on the street without having to worry. You just need a sticker for your car window.
There's been a three-year ban on adding more of the zones to the city, but that could soon change.
Sixty-five percent of neighbors would have to sign a petition for resident-only parking zones in their area.
City traffic engineers would then take around two months to evaluate the request.
News 12 Connecticut spoke with folks in the West End who say parking is scarce due to nearby Stamford Hospital and Lione Park.
They say bringing back the program is much needed.
“I think it would be great if we could have a sticker and put it so we can park on the street,” says Kristina DiSanto. “I mean, I understand when it gets excessive like six or seven cars, but I think if there is a limit on it, then having a sticker would be awesome."
The public meeting will be tonight at 7 p.m. at the Stamford Government Center downtown.
If passed, the matter would then head to the board of representatives.
