The new year means new sales taxes in Connecticut.
Starting Wednesday, consumers will have to pay sales tax on five additional items.
On the first day of the new year, dry cleaners will start charging sales tax. At Lee's Tailors and Cleaners in Norwalk, a shirt costs $1.75. With the sales tax added, that price goes up 11 cents.
Residents will also pay more for parking, interior design services and safety equipment. Gov. Ned Lamont wanted to include taxing on hair stylists and dozens of other items, but they were dropped.
It's all part of this year's state budget, which already increased taxes on restaurant meals and digital downloads. But with that budget comes a break for small businesses as well -- starting Wednesday, they'll no long have to pay a $250 business entity tax.
