A big honor for News 12’s Frank Recchia who received the MLK Award for Excellence in Community Service.

The Bridgeport nonprofit Monitor My Health bestowed the honor at a ceremony in Bridgeport.

The organization promotes healthy eating habits in communities of color to prevent diabetes and other deadly conditions.

"Without him, we would have not been able to bring our message effectively to the community…Frank has done that not only for Monitor My Health, but also for other not-for-profit organizations,” said Dr. Dana Wade, with MMH.

Wade added that Recchia is a trusted voice in the community who always gives back.
