A Closter man has been charged with attempted child endangerment following a monthslong investigation into online sexual conversations with someone he believed was a minor, authorities said.
The Bergen County Prosecutor's office said Kenneth G. Belhumer Jr., 58, was arrested Wednesday after members of the office's Cyber Crimes Unit and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service executed a search warrant at his home.
Authorities said the investigation began in November 2025, after Bergen County prosecutors coordinated with the NCIS Northeast Field Office in Connecticut on an online child endangerment case. Between May 8 and July 9, 2025, an undercover NCIS agent posing as a 14-year-old child online was contacted by an adult male suspect who engaged in sexual conversations, sent nude photos and offered to pay the child to perform sexual acts, according to prosecutors.
Investigators said they later determined the suspect lived in Bergen County.
Belhumer was charged with attempted child endangerment and jailed pending a court appearance.
