Boreum Hill residents say the noise from the construction site of the new Brooklyn jail is keeping them up at all hours of the night.
"Noise and shaking of the building around the clock,” said Jay Shuttleworth. “That’s not OK."
There’s already been dozens of 311 noise complaints since work on the borough jail started a few years ago.
The site is currently behind schedule. It is expected to be complete by 2029 despite a rush from the city to get the jail open in time for the close of Rikers Island in 2027.
Local law requires that borough-based jails be built and Rikers be closed - all by 2027.
A source close to the administration said “Mayor Adams has repeatedly called on the City Council to address this unrealistic timeline and change the law.”
In the meantime, Council Member Lincoln Restler, who represents the district, tells News 12 he has heard the complaints and is actively working to address them.
