Health care workers in Norwalk are taking extra precautions with flu season in full swing.
At Physician One Urgent Care, doctors and staff members are trying hard to keep themselves safe from the flu so they can be there for the patients who need them.
Dr. Kilbourn Gorden says it doesn't take much to be exposed to the flu. He says when you have to get close to a patient to examine them, all it takes is a deep breath and the germs are in your system. He says he's been sick three times in the last six weeks so now he is taking extra precautions.
"As of yesterday, I'm wearing a mask for every single patient," says Gordon. "Just be careful."
Dr. Gordon points out that masks are only effective if used properly. He says even with your mask you still have to be sure to wash your hands because if you touch your lips, nose or eyes you can get sick.
In addition to a mask, Dr. Gordon says wash your hands before touching your face, try to stay 5 feet away from people and sleep alone in bed.
