The Norwalk NAACP, Westport police and TEAM Westport partnered Saturday to hold a food drive at the Westport Stop and Shop.

Organizers say the event has been months in the making. Donors have given all kinds of food that will go directly to families in need in Fairfield County.

Volunteers doing the actual collecting are with the Stop, Shop, and Drop effort. They're asking for nonperishable food items like pasta and cereals.

They're also asking the public to provide fresh fruit and vegetables.

Organizers say they've already gotten more food donations than expected.
