Norwalk city officials said they will revitalize a dangerous traffic intersection near Norwalk Hospital.
Norwalk was awarded $800,000 in grants this past November to improve the intersection of Stuart Avenue and Stevens Street at Magnolia Avenue in the Hospital Hill district.
The discussion about changes to the intersection has been ongoing for over 20 years.
Jim Travers, director of the Norwalk Transportation, Mobility and Parking Department, said it’s one of the most dangerous pedestrian intersections in the city, with three pedestrian accidents in the past three years.
Travers says the project won’t just fix the safety problem of the intersection, but it will revitalize the neighborhood with more parking and better sidewalks.
“This is really important because it ensures we’re participating in government. We’re seeking opinion but we’re also giving the opportunity for people to give their opinion,” said Travers.
The city aims to finalize these plans by the end of summer and begin construction in the fall.
“We want to hear from people because, at the end of the day, we want to have the best project out there as humanly possible. Our goal in the department is to have an award-winning project,” said Travers.
