Norwalk to step up bank security after robberies
Federal and local officials plan to meet in an effort to boost security at Norwalk banks following a string of robberies.
Norwalk Police Chief Harry Rilling and Mayor Dick Moccia will meet with the FBI, the state's attorney, U.S. attorneys and possibly bank managers as part of the initiative.
?Just want to make sure the citizens understand we are trying to work on both a local and a federal level,? Moccia said.
Community leaders said they hope their plan will help ease residents? fears.
Five Norwalk banks have been robbed in a little over a month. Three ATMs have also been robbed since the end of 2006. Security officers have already been put in place outside some banks.
Norwalk police have made three arrests stemming from recent robberies.
