A nursing facility in Fairfield offering a free training program says their latest class was flooded with applicants looking for a new career in a dismal economy.
The Jewish Home for the Elderly says it not only promises free training to those accepted into the program, but also a full-time job for at least a year once the training is successfully completed.
Amy Rodriguez, who has been working two jobs at a mall to make ends meet, says she has always wanted to study nursing.
"I always wanted to be in medical field," she says.
Rodriguez was accepted into the program this week along with eight other students.
"I started crying when they called me," she says. "It meant that much to me."
Representatives from the Jewish Home for the Elderly say they also have a program to help sponsor nursing assistants who return to school to become registered nurses.
