A 17-year-old boy was shot near Dr. Susan S. McKinney Secondary School of the Arts in Fort Greene on Thursday morning, police said.
The shooting happened just before 8:30 a.m. at the corner of Park Avenue and North Oxford Street, near a deli.
Police say the teen was struck in the stomach and managed to run about 200 feet to the school, where he got help from school safety agents.
He was taken to Methodist Hospital and is in stable condition, according to authorities.
“While this incident took place off campus, this display of gun violence is deeply concerning. We are grateful to our dedicated school staff and NYPD School Safety Agents who provided critical support to this young person after they sought help at the school," said a Department of Education spokesperson. "Additional supports are being directed to the school, including school social workers, as well as support for the school community via Project Pivot.”
Police say the suspect fled the scene on North Oxford Street and was wearing a black North Face jacket. Sources say the suspect is also a teen.
No arrests have been made.
