Police say a suspect attempted to flee a routine traffic stop in Queens and struck an NYPD officer with his vehicle Wednesday night.
According to police, officers stopped a white Subaru SUV believed to be stolen at the intersection of South Road and Sutphin Boulevard around 11:40 p.m. Surveillance video shows the driver of the Subaru turning their lights on and then seconds later, an unmarked police car pulls up in front of the car. Officers jumped out, and the driver of that SUV slammed into one of the officers before driving off.
The NYPD says another officer fired one shot from their gun at the vehicle, but it's not believed that anyone was hit by that bullet.
Both officers were admitted to Jamaica Hospital. The officer who was struck was reported to have a leg injury but is in stable condition.
There is no word on the location of the suspect.
