Officials have released new information about the house fire on Selleck Street in Stamford Thursday.
They say three officers rescued five people from the home. One of the officers was Heriberto Perez.
Police say Perez was working an extra duty assignment with Frontier Communications at the time.
"Eddie Perez was working with us when the fire came out of nowhere and the back of the house was fully engulfed in flames. Eddie ran into the house to get people out, including a baby. I know cops get a bad rap these days, but this dude was the unsung hero of the day," said Frontier Communications in a statement.
