A man spent the night clinging to the base of a pillar after falling into the icy waters of the Housatonic River in Derby, officials say.

A man spent the night clinging to the base of a pillar after falling into the icy waters of the Housatonic River in Derby, officials say.
The incident happened Sunday night.
Derby officials say they found the man sitting at the base of a pillar beneath the bridge over the Housatonic River Monday.
Officials say he fell into the water Sunday night and swam to the pillar and waited to be rescued.
The man, and three firefighters were all taken to the hospital to be checked out for exposure to the cold.
