Bridgeport police say two men are in custody and charged with attempt to commit larceny after they were caught trying to steal from a bank.
Officers say the men were spotted Tuesday afternoon at Citibank on Main Street.
Police say they spotted the men acting suspiciously outside of the bank, so they went inside to investigate. They say a bank teller was holding two fake checks from one of the suspects.
After searching the two men and their car, police say they found more than 20 fraudulent checks, each in the amount of $1,900. They also found credit cards, a printer and sheets of paper.
Authorities believe the suspects would have created more checks, targeting other Citibank locations.
They also believe the suspects, who have not yet been identified, may be working with other people on these crimes. The men were also carrying fake identification.
Police say that although the suspects have been charged, they won't be arraigned until they have been positively identified through fingerprints.
They are also reminding residents to monitor their bank accounts so they don't become victims.
