Officials say a fire Wednesday night in Bridgeport badly burned a tenant, injured two firefighters and displaced 17 people.
Flames broke out in one of the apartments above Sorrento Importing Co., a decades-long city staple located at 2487 Main St.
Officials say a man was found inside the building and was hospitalized with serious burns. Two firefighters were taken to the hospital with heat-related injuries.
The fire didn't spread to the apartments or Italian deli, but there was considerable smoke and water damage throughout the building.
The Red Cross is assisting the displaced tenants.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Sal Cataldo, who's worked at Sorrento's since he was 8 years old, says the owner, Joe Milazzo, is known for giving back to the community. Milazzo hopes to reopen the business within a couple days.
