Officials say a fire in Trumbull on Sunday was caused by a car that struck a building and ruptured a gas line.

Fire officials say the car hit the Royce at Trumbull apartments on Avalon Gates Road.

They say the driver fled the scene but later returned, saying she had mistaken the gas pedal for the brake.

No one was injured in any of the apartments.
