A Woodbridge homeowner is facing legal issues with the town after mowing the lawn in its now-closed golf course.
Roger Sherman tells News 12 the grass in the golf course was more than a foot high.
"Within eight months a beautiful piece of property has gone to weeds," he said.
Sherman said that shortly after cutting the grass, he received a letter demanding that he do not cut the grass again in the future.
News 12 is told the letter said that the town will pursue legal remedies if the grass-cutting continued, noting that the town could be liable for any kind of accident.
“For example, somebody could believe a limb on a tree needs to come down on publicly owned property and cut it down and cause an accident," said the town’s attorney, Gerald Weiner.
Weiner says he understands Sherman was doing a good deed, but Sherman didn't request the required permission.
Sherman, however, tells News 12 that he believes he's being threatened because he opposes the local administration.
Sherman says he's not trying to cause problems, but he wants the town he loves taken care of.
Woodbridge families also say they just want something useful done to the 160 acres of land.
News 12 is told that Gerald Weiner will address the issue further at the next town meeting on Wednesday.
