Officials are warning residents of scams as they begin to make repairs to their homes after the recent storms.
These scammers, also known as "storm chasers," are preying on homeowners after weather emergencies, according to officials. They offer to do home repairs at low costs and never follow through.
Tips to avoid entering false contracts include doing your research before deciding who you should hire for repairs, asking questions and verifying registration. Officials say all home improvement contractors are required to be registered with the DCP.
Officials also recommend avoiding paying in cash or paying the amount up front.
