New Haven Police officers responded to a car crash around 1:27 p.m. Saturday at the 600 block of Woodward Avenue.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a Hyundai Elantra crashed against a tree with an 18-year-old man from Bridgeport lying on the ground.
The driver, a 20-year-old woman also from Bridgeport, was found in the vehicle with injuries. The front passenger, 23-year-old Jocelyn Hernandez of West Haven, was also injured.
Hernandez was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital and later succumbed to her injuries.
The rear passenger sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver is currently in critical condition.
The initial investigation shows that the Hyundai was traveling south on Woodward Avenue at the time of the collision.
The Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to assume responsibility for the investigation.
