Hartford police responded to a mental health evaluation in an apartment on 990 Capitol Ave. to assist Capital Region Mental Health workers Thursday morning.

According to police, at some point during the evaluation, the person produced a knife, and at least one officer discharged their weapon.

The person was transferred to an hospital, where they were pronounced deceased.

Two officers are being evaluated following the incident, although police say they did not appear injured.

The Inspector General's Office is handling the ongoing investigation.
