A Connecticut man charged with murder appeared in court Friday for the first time since being extradited back to the state from Maryland.
UConn student Peter Manfredonia, 23, was charged with murder, criminal attempt to commit murder, assault in the first degree, home invasion, kidnapping with a firearm in the first degree, robbery in the first degree, larceny in the first degree, two counts of stealing a firearm, and assault on an elderly party in the third degree.
He remained silent while appearing before a judge in Rockville Superior Court Friday afternoon.
Manfredonia is accused of killing two people before fleeing the state in late May.
The Newtown man was captured without incident in Maryland a few weeks ago.
His bond was initially set at $5 million, but a judge later increased it to $7 million.
Police say additional charges will be lodged against him in the coming days from crimes committed in Derby as well as an alleged murder.
At a press conference Sunday, state police said they hope the charges will bring all those affected some closure.
"As an agency, we'd just like to express our deepest sympathies to those that have been impacted by the crimes," says Trooper Josue Dorelus.
Manfredonia’s next court date is July 10 in Rockville with a possible probable cause hearing on July 30.
