A newly formed state health network -- owned by doctors -- says its offering something very different for patients.
Windsor-based Southern New England Healthcare says its new group is all about primary-care doctors who aren't interested in being independent practitioners but also don't want the constraints of being part of a big hospital.
Even though the network is based north of Hartford, doctors in Fairfield County will be affiliated.
There are already 600 providers in the network.
Lisa Trumble – president and CEO of SoNE HEALTH says health care is struggling nationally and locally.
She says a lot of the current models that we've been using for health care have been in the industry for decades and they're no longer useful.
Trumble says physicians are feeling marginalized in the process and patients are feeling like they're not getting the appropriate care.
"We're offering a model that allows the doctor patient relationship to take priority again because it is the most meaningful relationship in healthcare and it gives the doctors freedom to practice the way they desire and manage patients the way they desire rather than based on existing employment structures that occur in the market today," said Trumble.
The American Medical Association says this value based care approach can promote better coordination among different health care professions, avoid unnecessary services, and promote wellness and prevention. SoNE HEALTH says in the long run its going to save money.
