Hundreds gathered Tuesday evening at Plainville High School to honor Ray Moreau, a veteran firefighter who died after suffering catastrophic injuries while battling a fire on Sunday.
Moreau, 60, had served on the force for 35 years. Police said a piece of a truck broke off during the incident, striking him and causing fatal injuries. He later died while undergoing surgery.
Family, friends and fellow firefighters from departments across the region paid their respects.
Gov. Ned Lamont was among the state officials who spoke at the memorial.
Funeral services for Moreau are set for this Saturday at 10 a.m. in Welte Hall at Central Connecticut State University.
