A measure in Connecticut to officially recognize pizza as the state food has some tri-state rivals trading jabs on Twitter.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal weighed in on just how good the pizza is in Connecticut saying, "Literally no comparison. The best in the United States."
News of making pizza the official state food drew the attention of rivals in New Jersey. The state's official Twitter account offered a simple "no" for an answer.
"Don't worry. We''ll send you a slice," said Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz. "In the meantime, stick to the pork rolls."
Blumenthal says his legislative colleagues know where the slices are best.
"They may not admit it publicly, but they tell me privately in conscience and conviction they know that Connecticut pizza is supreme."
Jim Kelly, the director of operations at Colony Grill, says he holds no ill will toward doughy slices from New York and New Jersey. Kelly says, "There's plenty of room in the pool."
Twitter-based pizza wars are nothing new, Last fall, Gov. Ned Lamont traded barbs with New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy over which state had the best pie.
Kelly says there was never any question.
"I think it would be best if the governors focused their competitive energies on reopening their states' economies rather than which state has the best pizza," says Kelly. "Because we all know it's Connecticut."
The pizza bill was drafted by Rep. Patricia Dillon and Sen. Gary Winfield.
