Pleasure Beach was open for Memorial Day for the first time in almost two decades.
The Bridgeport beach reopened to the public for a short season last summer after being closed for 18 years.
People were able to board a ferry in Bridgeport and ride out to the island. A short golf cart ride then brought them to the beach.
Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch was one of the people who came to the beach.
"This is a treasure to be preserved and protected and enjoyed by everyone," he said.
Officials say they're pleased with the turnout so far. They say about 1,000 people already made the trip to Pleasure Beach this Memorial Day weekend.
