State police are asking for the public's help as they investigate the death of a person found on the Wilbur Cross Parkway in Woodbridge Friday morning.

Investigators say the body was found near Route 15.

Authorities say the unidentified victim appears to have been hit by a car which apparently left the scene.

State officials closed the southbound side of the highway in Woodbridge between exits 59 and 58 at around 9 a.m. to conduct an investigation. As a result, traffic was backed up in the area for seven hours. The road has since reopened.

Police say the body has been taken to the state medical examiner for autopsy and identification.
