It happened just after 2:30 p.m. in the area of Goffe Street by Hudson Street. The victim was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say a passing school bus with children on board was struck by a stray bullet during the shooting. The driver stopped several blocks away from the scene and all the passengers were able to safely exit the bus. No children were injured.
While police looked for suspects, a 16-year-old with a ghost gun that had an extended magazine was detained on Hudson Street, according to authorities. Police do not believe that teen was responsible for the shooting.
