Police say they are searching for the person responsible for vandalizing multiple school buses in Norwalk.
They say the damage happened Wednesday night into Thursday morning at the ECS Transportation Company on Meadow Street.
According to police, 18 of the smaller buses that Norwalk schools use and a box truck were broken into. They say 18 computer tablets were also stolen, with each tablet being valued at $100.
Norwalk Public Schools tell News 12 that they use ECS for special needs transportation in and out of district, and say the incident did not affect any children getting to school at their regular times.
The bus yard is fenced in, but police say that did not stop this crime of opportunity.
"In general, we've certainly had an uptick in unlocked vehicles being entered throughout the city as had Fairfield County. I'm not sure if this is related to that," says Norwalk Police Lt. Terry Blake.
News 12 reached out to the bus company but it had no comment.
