Police in Waterbury say a 2-year-old child is in stable condition after being shot in the stomach Tuesday afternoon.

Officers say the 2-year-old was playing outside when he was hit by gunfire at a home on Pinecrest Drive.

Police say neighbors told them they heard a boom-like noise or a firework shortly before the child was struck by a bullet.

Police have yet to apprehend suspects.
