Police in Stamford say a baby was found dead in a hotel room Wednesday morning.
Authorities say the 8-month-old girl was on the floor and not breathing when her mother woke up at around 7 a.m. They say the girl, her mother and 2-year-old brother were sleeping in one bed, while the father was in another. The family was spending the night at the Crowne Plaza Stamford on Summer Street. They are from Ohio.
Someone at the hotel tried to perform CPR on the baby, but was unsuccessful. News 12 is told the girl, who was the youngest of five children, was later pronounced dead at Stamford Hospital.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. Police say they expect to have the results on Thursday.
The couple's son will be in the custody of the Department of Children and Families until police conclude their investigation.
Stamford Police Lt. Diedrich Hohn is reminding parents that their young children should be sleeping in a crib, not in bed with them.
