Police say a car with six teenage passengers was involved in a crash in Stamford Monday, killing two and injuring four.
Officials say the driver, 18-year-old Jerry Diaz, was headed southbound on Canal Street around 2:30 a.m. Monday when he hit two utility poles. Backseat passenger NiShawn Tolliver, 18, died at the scene. Another backseat passenger, 19-year-old Kymoni Pollock, died at the hospital.
Officials say the driver and 19-year-old Amaiya Callahan are at Stamford Hospital in critical condition.
They say the two other passengers, Alontia Moore and Erica Stephens are in serious condition.
After the crash, police temporarily closed off Canal Street at Henry Street as utility crews fixed the damage.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident, but they say speeding is a factor.
