Bridgeport's chief of police says the man shot in the stomach early Friday morning may be trying to mislead investigators about where it happened.
The victim says it happened near the University of Bridgeport on Park Avenue near Atlantic Street after 2 a.m., but police say they did not find any evidence at the scene.
Police say they searched the area and examined building exteriors and did not find a single bullet hole or shell casing.
Police Chief A.J. Perez says Darryl Peterson drove the victim, Davon Lott, to St. Vincent's Medical Center. Lott was treated for a gunshot wound to the stomach.
But Perez says both men have extensive criminal records.
"This is not rocket science," Perez says. "I think we're going to find who shot him and why."
Investigators are examining surveillance video taken in the area.
