A 60-year-old Highland Mills man suffered serious injuries in a violent rollover crash on Route 32 in Cornwall early Friday morning, after police say he was struck from behind by a drunk driver.
The Town of Cornwall Police Department responded around 5:08 a.m. on July 5, near Long Hill Road Extension. Investigators say a 2012 Mazda, driven by 21-year-old Michael Grove of Central Valley, slammed into the back of a 1999 Toyota Camry driven by Robert McCue Jr. Both vehicles rolled over several times before coming to rest in the roadway.
McCue was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla due to the severity of his injuries.
Authorities say Grove had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.22%, nearly three times the legal limit. He refused medical treatment at the scene and was charged with multiple offenses including vehicular assault, aggravated DWI and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Grove was released on his own recognizance after arraignment.
A GoFundMe page created to help cover McCue’s medical expenses has raised thousands of dollars as community members rally behind the longtime Hudson Valley resident.
