Police have identified the victim of Bridgeport's first homicide of the year as Jawuan Green.
The shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday outside The Snack Shop at the corner of Newfield and Revere avenues.
A store worker says Green bought a cigar and left. Two gunshots were heard, and the worker says Green came back inside and collapsed, saying he'd been shot. The worker called 911.
Medics responded to the scene, but police say Green's brother arrived first and took him to the hospital, where he died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez says he is adding extra patrols to the area.
Green celebrated his 21st birthday on Sunday. Candles line the outside of the shop in his memory.
