Police confirmed Tuesday that they are investigating possible hazing at Ridgefield High School, and the school district has confirmed that some students are being disciplined in the matter.
Principal Stacey Gross sent letters home to parents that seemed to acknowledge hazing. The letter read, in part, "It is surprising and disappointing that some students chose to become involved in hazing, in spite of all the education." The letter also says, "Most students and families understand that hazing has no place in Ridgefield; the challenge will be to reach those who don't yet get it."
"Some of the seniors were hazing some ninth-graders and, like, telling them to drink alcohol, and they forced them into it," a student told .
Cheerleaders were also hazing victims, making the school's recent pep week difficult, according to students.
Residents are alarmed at the allegations, saying this isn't a common occurrence for them. "Growing up in Ridgefield, I never was personally hazed," a resident said. "Where are the parents? Where is the accountability?"
While police aren't going into detail about the allegations or their investigation, the school superintendent said that students who were hazed are receiving support.
