Fairfield police say a landlord threatened a tenant while holding a gun Wednesday afternoon.
Police say the incident occurred at a home at 3840 Black Rock Turnpike owned by 77-year-old William Hanford.
They say Hanford fatally shot a woodchuck and then threatened to shoot the tenant's cat before saying he would take his own life.
Police say the couple who own the cat rent an upstairs apartment and were in the process of being evicted this Friday.
News 12 spoke with a friend of Hanford who says he was shocked and called Hanford an easygoing guy.
Officers say Hanford did not cooperate immediately and was taken to the hospital to undergo mental evaluation.
