Bridgeport police say they have made a major breakthrough in the case of a hit-and-run that claimed the life of a 51-year-old woman earlier this month.
Police say Evelyn Agyei's Subaru was struck by a BMW SUV, forcing her off the road and into a tree on Boston Avenue. Her 11-year-old son was injured in the crash.
Police say the white SUV, which sustained front-end damage, was tracked down and impounded. They expect a forensics investigation to identify it as the one involved in the crash.
Police were joined by Agyei's family for a news conference Tuesday, where they asked for the public's help in the case.
Police Chief Joe Gaudett says the plea generated new information that furthered the case tremendously. He says they have identified a suspect, whose name hasn't been released, and plan to make an arrest soon.
A spokesman for Agyei's family tells News 12 that they are grateful to the community for assisting police with their investigation.
