Police in Stratford are looking for the driver of a blue 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis who struck a woman and then fled the scene.
The hit and run happened on Hollister Street near the corner of Burritt Avenue Friday. According to police, the 41-year-old woman was standing near her car when a speeding vehicle slammed into her, throwing her 60 feet. Police say she is lucky to be alive and suffered only a broken leg.
Area residents say they are not surprised by the incident and that something needs to be done to control speeding drivers. They say they are hopeful police will increase patrols to make the street a speed trap instead of a speedway.
