Bridgeport police renewed their call today for help from the public in solving an accident that left a mother dead and her son critically injured.
Carmen Martinez, 41, and her 9-year-old son, Jhoxiry Duran, were struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of West Avenue and John Street on Jan. 11.
News 12 has previously reported that the driver of the pickup truck, 70-year-old Joseph Frazier, of Massachusetts, remained at the scene after the collision and was not charged in connection with the incident.
Authorities say key witnesses left the scene before police arrived. They're asking for the public's help identifying witnesses shown walking next to the victims in surveillance video.
Police say the missing witnesses could help them learn important details about the crash.
Pedro Duran, Jhoxiry's father, says his son was released from Yale-New Haven Hospital and is having trouble coping with his mother's death.
Duran, who lives in Trenton, New Jersey, returned with his son there to recuperate.
He also called for the witnesses to come forward.
