Bridgeport police announced Friday they made an arrest in connection with the city's first homicide of the year.
Police say they arrested 37-year-old Karim Skipworth. They say Skipworth is a drug dealer and had set up a meeting with the victim, 28-year-old Jose Lebron, on the corner of Ogden and William streets on Feb. 20. After they met, Lebron robbed Skipworth, authorities say.
"After he robbed him, he decided to run away from the suspect. The suspect exited his vehicle and shot him once through the back of the neck, killing him instantly," said Capt. AJ Perez.
Skipworth surrendered Friday on a warrant charging him with murder, carrying a pistol without a permit and criminal possession of a firearm.
His bond was set at $1 million.
