A report about a man approaching a juvenile turned into an attack on a police officer Monday afternoon, according to authorities.

Police were informed of the alleged approach on Stone Tent Road in New Milford. They say the juvenile went inside a nearby house.

When an officer arrived, police say the suspect attacked the officer and tried to take his gun, which ended up going off. No one was struck.

More officers arrived on scene to get control of the situation.

The suspect was identified as Matthew Gambone. He was charged with reckless endangerment.
