A 22-year-old Milford man on a scooter was fatally struck by an SUV early Tuesday morning, police say.

Authorities say Walter Kiernan collided with the vehicle near the intersection of Bridgeport Avenue and Boston Post Road just after midnight. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say he wasn't wearing a helmet.

Authorities say the driver of the SUV cooperated with police and stayed at the scene. The driver and the passengers in the SUV were not injured.

Kiernan's uncle spoke to News 12 Connecticut by phone. He described his nephew as a “good kid” and expressed his sadness about the situation.
