Stamford police say they are looking for a man who pointed a gun at a woman and her 4-year-old son in an attempted robbery.

Investigators say the incident happened almost two weeks ago near the corner of Woodland Place and South Pacific Street in the city's South End.

Investigators say the victim told police she was walking back to her car on Oct. 17 after taking part in a cancer walk, when a man stuck a gun in her side and demanded money. She says the suspect then threatened to shoot her young son.

Police say a good Samaritan yelled at the suspect during the incident, the woman then knocked the gun out of his hand and he ran away.

Authorities say the victims are not from the area.

Investigators say they have a good description of the suspect. They say they're hoping the high quality of a surveillance video from a group home near the crime scene will lead them to the suspect.

Police say Stamford's South End is a high-crime area and that the people who live and work there keep to themselves.

Police say they were able to find the handle of the gun following the incident.
