State and local police seized guns, drugs and thousands in cash Thursday in Bridgeport.
In the city's East End, police say they seized large amounts of drugs, an illegal handgun cache and high capacity magazines at 76 Fourth St. The suspect who lives there, 34-year-old Isiah Yarborough, was not home when police arrived, but they say they did find and arrest him.
The arrest and seizures came following an extensive undercover investigation, police say.
They also found more than two pounds of marijuana. They say local gang members used the home to stash guns used to commit other crimes.
"They would keep them there, and when they need it, they would retrieve, conduct their dirty business, come back and return the weapons for safekeeping," says AJ Perez, Bridgeport's chief of police. "So it's very significant that we took those guns out of that house."
Among the charges Yarborough is facing is operating a drug factory near a school. Dunbar Elementary is only a few blocks away.
Police say they seized a similar stash of illegal guns and drugs on Golden Hill Street two weeks ago and arrested 23-year-old Rashaad Haynes. Police say Haynes bond was set at $250,000.
