A Norwalk teenager is accused of robbing a fellow teen with a gun during a meetup to sell clothing, police say. Police received a call from the victim that they were robbed on Winfield Street on Saturday, around 12:30 p.m. They told police that during the meetup, the 16-year-old male suspect threatened the victim with a gun. Authorities say the sale was arranged through Snapchat. When the pair met up, the suspect tried to pay with counterfeit money, which led to an altercation. During the incident, he took out the gun and left. He also took the jeans that belonged to the victim. Police found the teen, who was wearing the stolen pants, at his home. Officers also recovered the gun and a magazine. The teen was charged with robbery, carrying a pistol without a permit, risk of injury, negligent storage of a firearm and larceny.
Police are reminding residents to be cautious when buying and selling items through online marketplaces or on social media.
There is an E-Commerce Safe Zone for online transactions at police headquarters. Police say the area provides a safe location for residents to complete transactions and reduces the risk of violence or theft.
